Sciatica is described as a constant pain in one leg or buttock. It usually begins in the lower back, and goes down the sciatic nerve in the back of the leg, generally feeling like a tingling or burning sharp pain, which can make it difficult to walk or stand up. If this applies to you, you may be suffering from sciatica. Luckily, there are many yoga poses that can help with sciatica pain. With our yoga in Selden, Block Chiropractic will show you which poses would help you the most.

Most of these yoga poses include stretching the hamstring, make sure you consult with a doctor beforehand, to make sure you sciatica is not related to something more serious. Some of the following simple yoga poses you can try include:

  • Spinal twist: sit on the floor with your right leg over the left, your left foot resting on the floor under your buttock. Place your left arm behind you and use your arms to push yourself further into the stretch. Repeat on other side.
  • Standing twist: put a chair against the wall. Put our right foot on the chair, bending your knee at a 90-degree angle, keeping the other leg straight. Use your hands to help you balance against the wall. Lift your body onto the ball of your foot, slowly put your foot back down as you exhale.
  • King pigeon pose: laying on the floor, put your right foot folded in front of you, while your left leg is straight behind you. Hold your torso up, to bring a stretch to the hip.
