Thought of the Day

Posted on 2012-04-23 07:58:09

As I was watching an ABC news report of children and chiropractic I was wondering why so many parents are coming in for care and leaving their children home?

Chiropractic care is safe and effective for children! Our office has treated children with ear infections, Colic, constipation, headaches and back pain.

Most improtantly we have treated kids without any syptoms who have come in for check-ups to ensure good spinal health and peak performance.

I would love to know your thoughts!

Back Pain Can Occur for Many Reasons – We’re Here to Make it Stop!

Selden chiropractor helps back pain patients.jpgMany things, from injury to illness, can cause back pain. Some people may experience pain due to repetitive movements or if they lift a heavy object. Chiropractors Dr. Richard Block, Dr. Jeffrey Block, and Dr. Brian Bogdanski at Block Chiropractic offer pain management and chiropractic care for patients experiencing back and neck pain. Treatment at our clinic involves spinal adjustment and decompression therapy as well as an evaluation of your lifestyle and what you can do to prevent pain from occurring.

The first common cause of pain is due to straining the muscles or using them improperly. A person may feel a sharp sudden pain in their back when they try to lift a heavy box or piece of furniture or if they twist their back in an awkward or unusual way. An injury may also strain the back leading to pain. A work injury can occur if a person performs the same movement over and over throughout the day or if they constantly need to lift objects. Back pain can also result if a person sits in an office chair all day and has poor posture. Injuries such as whiplash also lead to pain in the back and neck area.

Structural problems, such as a herniated disc or a condition such as osteoarthritis, can also cause back and neck pain. When a person has a herniated disc, the cushion in between the vertebrae is pushed out, putting pressure on the nerves. In rare cases, the pain may be due to an infection or a tumor growing on the spine.

Chiropractic Care and Pain Management Options

Chiropractic care involves treating pain without using medications or surgery. Our chiropractors use techniques such as spinal adjustments and decompression therapy to restore the natural state of a patient's spine, improving their health and removing pain. Our team will also teach stretches and exercises patients can perform on their own for further pain relief and better healing. If needed, our chiropractors will advise patients on how to sit at work or how to pick a chair that will not make the pain worse.

Block Chiropractic Treats Whiplash Patients

Posted on 2012-01-09 13:17:47

pain management for car accident injury.jpgDid you know that car accidents at even at low speeds can lead to serious whiplash injuries? In fact, many Smithtown and Selden car accident victims mistakenly believe that since they have not sustained visible injuries that their bodies are fine. Unfortunately, that is not always the case.

Even a minor fender bender can cause serious trauma to the musculoskeletal system. Whiplash injuries include upper back pain, neck pain, headaches and migraines. Some patients may have difficulty concentrating or struggle to turn their head from side to side. Chiropractic care can help address these injuries while preventing more serious injuries from occurring.

Natural Pain Management for Whiplash Injuries from Car Accidents

At Block Chiropractic, we help patients safely recover from these injuries by treating the underlying cause for their pain. Rather than covering up neck pain with prescription painkillers, we use natural, non-invasive pain management treatments, including spinal adjustments to help bodies heal.

During a car accident, the force of impact can “whip” the neck backwards and forwards, abruptly forcing the cervical spine beyond its natural range of motion. This unnatural movement may cause a misalignment of the cervical spine, leading to chronic neck and back pain. Spinal adjustments are a safe, conservative and natural treatment that restores alignment to the spine.

Patients who have sustained a whiplash injury may also experience stiffness or soreness in their upper body, neck and shoulders. Our chiropractor will work with you to safely restore a full range of movement and flexibility to your body. Many of our patients benefit from gentle, corrective exercises that naturally complement our chiropractic adjustments.

If you are the victim of a car accident, don’t wait to seek treatment. The earlier a chiropractor can diagnose a whiplash injury, the more we can do to help you safely heal before pain compromises your ability to live an active life. Let our chiropractors and wellness team be your building Blocks to better health!
